Blower Door Testing
Every building has natural air leaks that result from building construction. These air leaks exist around windows, doors, plumbing penetrations, chimneys and more. If your home has difficulty maintaining an indoor temperature or feels uncomfortable during key cooling and heating seasons, your home may have an abundance of air leaks. A blower door test can be conducted to measure the air leakage rate and identify where air is leaking. Existing homes, new homes and commercial buildings can benefit from a blower door test.
A blower door test involves placing a fan into a door frame. This fan lowers the air pressure inside a house by pulling out inside air. A pressure sensing device is then used to measure the air pressure difference between the inside and outside of the home. A combination of pressure and fan-flow measurements determines the number of air leaks in the home.
